Officials

What does it mean to be a Carnival Official?

Officials ensure competitions are run in a safe and secure environment, while maintaining rules and regulations.

If you would like to become an official, please register your interest with lifesaving@coolumsurfclub.com.au

As an Official, you help run and officiate at carnivals. This could mean you help judge events such as sprints, flags, swim or boards, you could be marshaling nippers getting them ready for events, setting up competition arenas, starting races or recording finishes, and more.

At all times you are part of a large team with supervision and assistance from experienced Carnival Officials.

Do I have to volunteer for every carnival?

NO. You can put your hand up for select carnivals.

What’s involved in completing the Officials Course?

The course has an online learning component, a face-to-face workshop, plus on-the-job training at your first two (2) carnivals.

Officials Accreditation Process

New face to face workshops will be scheduled in the 2024/2025 season. For more information or to register an expression of interest please contact our Club Administration - lifesaving@coolumsurfclub.com.au

Ok, here’s the thing. Some effort is involved to complete the course. However, we’re sure you’ll agree it’s worth it to support your fellow clubbies.

So about now we know you’re thinking that you don’t need to worry about it, someone else will put their hand up to do it. This is not the case. We need YOUR help.

Remember – no Carnival Officials = no competing! It's that simple

Being a carnival official is an extremely rewarding job. You get a front-row seat to witness competitors of all ages and skill levels challenging themselves and giving their best.
