Youth Forum - 19th November 2022

Overall the feedback from the younger members who attended the 2022 Youth Forum on the 19th of November was positive in terms of the club experience, access to training and access to equipment.
Key improvements suggested were providing increased youth access in some areas (e.g. gym), including a games activity for younger members at the Friday Member Catch-up and more youth events.
Forum summary as follows:
What does the club do well for youth members?
Training
• On patrol from the experienced members
• Bronze course training
Facilities and equipment
• Showers, club room, kitchen, TV
• Strong positive feedback on ping pong table
• Equipment access e.g. boards
Culture
• Level of involvement in the club by members
• Great culture – welcoming
• Involvement in different activities
• Freedom
• Good advice
What could we do better for youth members?
Access
• Broader youth access e.g. IRB & gym
• Youth gym sessions
Participation
• Youth participation in competitions/carnivals
• Job for youth & cadets around the club e.g. Nipper Sundays
• Youth activities e.g. in club swim/board race, movie nights, excursions (eg helicopter)
Involvement
• Ask youth members on patrol their views
• Club suggestion board
• Monthly youth feedback email
Communication
• Posters around the club to inform more people about youth events, pathways
• Notice boards as preferred communication channel
Pathways
• Better support and engagement in Nippers to Cadet transition
What is the one thing you would like to see happen?
• Friday night youth games – mix up monthly e.g. volleyball, ping pong, tough footy, ultimate frisbee
• More youth engagement in surf sports
• Youth “sleep overs”
• Youth gym access without adult supervision

Support Coolum Surf Club
Not ready to become part of Coolum Surf Club but still want to help?
It takes a lot of money to run a surf lifesaving club; from the equipment needed on the beach (vehicles, boards, IRBs, first aid kits, defibrillators etc) to administration and training to facilitate patrolling.

Coolum Beach SLSC Nippers
Does your child want to become a Nipper?
Looking for a fun summer sport where your kids will learn essential surf safety skills, gain confidence in the ocean, and meet new friends?
Coolum Nippers is the answer! Nippers run from the September school holidays to February/March and is open to kids from 5 to 12 yrs.
Not only will they learn surf safety and what surf lifesaving is all about, but also have the opportunity to compete in carnivals and have mid-week training to improve their skills.
