Recent Rescue - Saturday 19th

Published: November 24, 2022

As always happens, just as Dave C's Patrol 13 was doing the final pack-up and wash-down for the Saturday afternoon patrol, a swimmer was spotted in difficulty in front of the rocks at the southern end of the beach.

Tom P quickly got to the swimmer (a young male here on schoolies) on the board, got him on the board and battled to get them both back out through the afternoon swell. Not long after Tom headed out, the IRB crew (Paul H & Steve S) got the IRB ready on the beach and headed out to assist. After a few missed passes due to the wave conditions, Steve S was able get the swimmer into the IRB and safely returned to the beach. The patient was then attended to for shock and a little bit of abrasions to the chest.

Well done to the team on a well-executed rescue which was observed by the General Meeting attendees who saw the drama unfold.

A member of the public who was watching from the supporters deck was so impressed she sent in a $50 donation and asked to pass on her congrats.

Not ready to become part of Coolum Surf Club but still want to help?

It takes a lot of money to run a surf lifesaving club; from the equipment needed on the beach (vehicles, boards, IRBs, first aid kits, defibrillators etc) to administration and training to facilitate patrolling.

So if you can't join us, support us through one of the following options.
