Surf Life Saver Profile 36
Published: December 20, 2023 Last Updated: December 20, 2023
Welcome Florian and thanks for sharing with us
Q – How long have you been in Coolum Surf Life Saving Club and what motivated you to volunteer
I’m a newbie with 2 months of SLS experience
At first I volunteered because I wasn’t sure what this thing is about. I joined because I saw that the Club had Surf Skis and I wanted to try these out.
Then I started my Bronze, because I learned that I would only get access if I would do the course
Q – Is your experience so far what you thought it would be?
So I started my Bronze, met some nice people and I actually wanted to do the whole lifesaving thing. Annnnnd then I got “kicked out” of the Bronze course by SLSQ because I am no an Australian Citizen but an exchange student (bureaucracy reasons). I then switched to the observer course so I could still patrol without the “fun stuff” of going into the water. In the end I can’t use the Surf Skis, but I am excited to patrol
On a lighter side
Q – Where did you grow up? (Assuming you’ve grown up)
Not a grown up, but I grew up in Germany in a town called Augsburg near Munich. So I’m an exchange student, got to school in Coolum, stay with a lovely host family and do a lot of surfing for an entire year (June to July)
Q – What’s the best job you’ve ever had?
Never worked, thanks to my parents for having enough money 😉
Q – Any nicknames?
Flo, pretty easy for Australian tongues
Q – Any Hobbies?
Here; surfing, surf skiing
At home; canoe/slalom, skiing (snow), partner dancing
In general; movies and I’m a video game nerd, way too much Youtube
Q – Favourite Music/Musician/Band
RAF Camora: German rapper. Otherwise I like move and video game sound tracks and some good old 20th century music
Q – Can you cook and what’s your favourite dish to prepare?
I can’t really cook. What I do cook here though is a German dish called ‘Käsespätzle’. This is German Mac & Cheese but way better
Q – Final & Life defining Question…. Pineapple on Pizza, Yes or No??
NO (even though I have never tried it)
Thank you Florian

Support Coolum Surf Club
Not ready to become part of Coolum Surf Club but still want to help?
It takes a lot of money to run a surf lifesaving club; from the equipment needed on the beach (vehicles, boards, IRBs, first aid kits, defibrillators etc) to administration and training to facilitate patrolling.
So if you can't join us, support us through one of the following options.
Coolum Beach SLSC Nippers
Does your child want to become a Nipper?
Looking for a fun summer sport where your kids will learn essential surf safety skills, gain confidence in the ocean, and meet new friends?
Coolum Nippers is the answer! Nippers run from the September school holidays to February/March and is open to kids from 5 to 12 yrs.
Not only will they learn surf safety and what surf lifesaving is all about, but also have the opportunity to compete in carnivals and have mid-week training to improve their skills.
