Welcome David and thanks for sharing with us
So let’s get deep and meaningful straight up
Q – How long have you been in Coolum Surf Life Saving Club and what motivated you to volunteer your time?
I joined Coolum Beach SLSC in September 2021. I had always wanted to join a surf club since I was a teenager, but never really had the opportunity until now! Love being in the ocean and helping others to understand it better and be safe.
Q – Is your experience so far what you thought it would be?
It's been awesome! Coolum is such a friendly and welcoming club and I’ve loved getting to know different people who aren’t on my patrol. Been involved in quite a few rescues which has been interesting…..so grateful for the quality training we had during the bronze course!
I got involved with the IRB racing team last season as well and this was a hoot! So much fun being part of the Coolum Team and attending those carnivals.
On a lighter side
Q – Where did you grow up? (Assuming you’ve grown up)
Grew up in the Blue Mountains just outside Sydney, a fair way from the beach. My cousins all lived in Wollongong and whenever we got down there for a visit I would spend most of the time at the beach.
Q – What’s the best job you’ve ever had?
Blimey! There’s been so many different things over the years! I was a MotorBike courier in London back in the 80s, did some acting in a few movies too, also ran a film studio... but best job probably was when I achieved my childhood dream and opened my own restaurant in Salisbury UK, back in 1999. Over the last 15yrs have definitely enjoyed being a personal trainer and gym owner back in Newcastle - it's always so rewarding to help people on their fitness journey and see the changes they make.
Q – Any nicknames?
Nothing that’s polite!
Q – Any Hobbies?
Love anything to do with exercise and adventure, Sunny Coast has so much to offer!
Food and wine also a big passion so it always good to have that balance
Q – Favourite Music/Musician/Band
I’m a 70s/80s boy and love diving back into those teenage years with some classic Cold Chiesel, Midnight Oil, AC/DC, ChoirBoys, Angels etc
Q – Can you cook and what’s your favourite dish to prepare?
Very lucky to have studied Hotel Management when I left school and love cooking and sharing scrummy with friends. Been doing a lot of Ceviche Snapper lately, so good to eat in summer and great to share with others!
Q – Final & Life defining Question…. Pineapple on Pizza, Yes or No??
I can hear the Italian ancestors screaming!! No Pineapple in the Pizza!!
Thanks for sharing with us David

Support Coolum Surf Club
Not ready to become part of Coolum Surf Club but still want to help?
It takes a lot of money to run a surf lifesaving club; from the equipment needed on the beach (vehicles, boards, IRBs, first aid kits, defibrillators etc) to administration and training to facilitate patrolling.
So if you can't join us, support us through one of the following options.
Coolum Beach SLSC Nippers
Does your child want to become a Nipper?
Looking for a fun summer sport where your kids will learn essential surf safety skills, gain confidence in the ocean, and meet new friends?
Coolum Nippers is the answer! Nippers run from the September school holidays to February/March and is open to kids from 5 to 12 yrs.
Not only will they learn surf safety and what surf lifesaving is all about, but also have the opportunity to compete in carnivals and have mid-week training to improve their skills.
