Although her story with lifesaving spans her life, the shorter version is as follows:

In the 1990s, along with a few other young women, Aamie became the new wave of "girl power" in Coolum Beach SLSC.
She remains a proactive voice for equal rights and fair treatment for all club members.

As the daughter of surf club stalwart Dave Cush, Aamie literally grew up on Coolum Beach and has always relished being in the thick of the action.
Aamie has been a part of the social fabric of the surf club for three decades and has played a significant part in making lifesaving at Coolum a more cohesive operation.
Over the years of growing up on Coolum Beach, Aamie's dedication to beach safety and the protection of others has been shaped by her involvement in the childcare industry.
She also taught learn to swim and was an aerobics instructor.

In 1996-97, 98-99 seasons, Aamie was FLO - the all-important Female Liaison Officer who was urging more female involvement in all facets of club activities.
In 1996-97 Aamie made a significant contribution to the club's culture and financial wellbeing representing Coolum Beach SLSC as an energetic and accomplished Miss Summer Surf Girl entrant.

Along the way, she raised $19,340, with the help of her support team.
As well as being a positive role model for future Miss Surf Girls, Aamie lent her considerable experience and knowledge built up over the years to assist Kate Stockley's tilt at the 2012/13 title.
She was part of Kate's solid support committee which helped raise $28,000 for the club through fundraising activities.

In recent times she has helped improve the recognition of the club's many long-service members as part of the Honours and Awards Sub-Committee.
She has also lent her skills as an accomplished photographer to help capture local club and beach life with an insider's eye.
Her commendable number of patrol hours, among the highest in the club, alone attests to her unswerving dedication to surf safety.
Aamie has consistently shown a dedication to duty and a love of patrolling between the red and yellow experienced only by committed volunteers.
She has played a significant role in ensuring women have rightly achieved an equal pride of place in ensuring no lives are lost between the flags at her beloved Coolum Beach
