ANZAC Dawn Service at Coochiemudlo Island

Published: April 27, 2023

There has been a long standing relationship between our club and Coochiemudlo SLSC, including donating a boat to them approximately 9 years ago.   Thanks to the old Boys crew for rowing and showing their support on our club's behalf.

The old Boys crew were invited to row over to Coochiemudlo Island for their dawn service on Tuesday 25/4/2023 for ANZAC Day.  They were joined by a crew from Point Lookout and Kurrawa. Which was much appreciated by the Island community.

By way of background CBSLSC had donated a boat to Coochiemudlo SLSC about 9 years ago.

It was also the second beach landing by a Coolum Boat since Ron Trembath, John Ellingsen and Wayne Porter( not sure who else wad involved) since their landing at Anzac Cove 5 years ago.  That was the centenary of Gallipoli and Anzac day.

The boat crews were all gathered around - an exact replica of the one they used at Gallipoli.

They rowed from Victoria Point to the island in the dark. It was raining with the wind really blowing from the SE. But their spirits were raised as the service started and the sun rose. They remembered those Australians that gave so much for us.  It was a great morning as they enjoyed the hospitality of the locals and meeting other boaties.

Not ready to become part of Coolum Surf Club but still want to help?

It takes a lot of money to run a surf lifesaving club; from the equipment needed on the beach (vehicles, boards, IRBs, first aid kits, defibrillators etc) to administration and training to facilitate patrolling.

So if you can't join us, support us through one of the following options.

Coolum Beach SLSC Nippers
