Nipper Carnivals
Carnivals for Under 8 to 15 age groups are held from October to March, providing nippers a fun and supportive environment to compete against others from the Sunshine Coast and QLD. Participation in Nipper Carnivals is not mandatory but is highly encouraged for a great experience! In addition to the standard beach and pool proficiency at the beginning of the season, nippers wanting to attend the carnivals must complete the competition distance proficiency.
Carnival Nominations
Parents are encouraged to complete carnival nominations for their nipper(s) through the Coolum Beach Nippers Team App
Essential Carnival Volunteers
To attend carnivals, clubs must ensure there is adequate water safety and officials, with a ratio of 1 water safety volunteer per 15 nippers and 1 official per 8 nippers. Parents of nippers attending are encouraged to volunteer for roles like water safety and officials. If you're interested in helping out on carnival day or taking up another role, please contact us at nipper@coolumsurfclub.com
What to Bring to a Carnival
Please remember to bring your club swimmers, Pink Rashie, and Nipper Competition Cap, as these are essential for participating in events. Don't forget sun protection, a chair, towel, food, water, a raincoat, and spare clothes. Upon arrival, locate the Coolum Beach SLSC marquee and ensure nippers stay nearby to avoid missing events. Parents are kindly asked to stay outside the competition area as Age Managers will supervise the children in this zone.
Carnvial Schedule and Participation
Carnivals are typically held on weekends, starting at 7:45 am and ending around 3-4 pm. It's important to arrive by 6-6:30 am for check-in and warm-up. U8-U10 events focus on participation, while U11-U14 events emphasise competition and skill-building
Handling Absences
If you cannot attend a nominated carnival, you must inform your Age Manager or the Team Manager before the carnival day by emailing nippers@coolumsurfclub.com.au or via Team App
Carnival Duties
To ensure your child can participate in carnivals, we kindly ask that at least one parent or older sibling volunteers for roles such as Age Managers, Carnival officials, Water Safety officers, equipment packers, and set-up/pack-up helpers. Your involvement plays a vital role in our club's ability to run successful carnivals
Branch and State Carnivals
To qualify for Branch and State Carnivals, nippers must attend at least 51% of Sundays during the season and complete all aspects of their relevant Age Award, including attending education sessions throughout the season
